HEY! Festival, Manchester
23 April 2026
Question:
What do St George, Mrs Gaskell, Empathy Museum, a radical ballad singer, Jennifer Reid and ManMet’s Centre for Fiction all have in common?
Answer:
HEY! Festival
On 23 April, Shakespeare’s Birthday, we created a unique, half day, writer led, fully immersive arts festival in the centre of Manchester on St George’s Day.

At Hey! people talked to our Ear of Britain, Argued with a Woman, joined in our interfaith blessing (mostly Manchester street songs) and listened to talks. The day also included in writing workshops and the chance to pluck up courage to perform live.

Creative workshops and events included actors from Empathy Museum, organisers and activists from the Hard Art Collective and FAITH leaders from across Manchester as well as from the Unitarian Chapel, Cross Street, attended by famed author Mrs Elizabeth Gaskell.
