Ffair Cymru – The fate of Wales is in our hands!

Join us for Ffair Cymru in Swansea on Saturday 2nd May at Urban HQ and Volcano Theatre — a joyful Bank Holiday gathering packed with creativity, conversation, and community spirit.

With the elections just around the corner, there’s never been a better time to come together, share ideas, and imagine the future of Wales. Ffair Cymru is a space to connect with neighbours, spark new thinking, and take real steps toward change — because shaping the future isn’t something we just leave for politicians to do for us, it’s something we create together.

On the day you will find Mioe Creative Productions, Women4Resources, The CAE, Chinese in Wales Association, Bylines Network, Common Cause Foundation, No Fit State Circus, Pathways to Peace, The Camerados, The Humanity Project, poets Rufus Mufasa, Mari Ellis Dunning and Jamie Woods, graffiti artist Ronny Oner, local band, Snail, and many more!

Expect a vibrant mix of art, music, workshops, performances, and hands-on activities for all ages. From thought-provoking discussions to playful creativity, this is a day where ideas and action come together.

What’s On – Workshops and Activities

Urban HQ Programme (10-5)

The Bar:

10.15-1.15: Mioe Creative Productions / Build Your City: Design your ideal city by choosing services, balancing budgets, and revealing your political alignment in a fun, interactive way!
2.30-4.30: Common Cause Foundation / Exploring Our Values Together: A thoughtful workshop exploring the values that shape how we live, connect, and organise as communities.

The Idris Room:

10.15-11.15am: Chinese in Wales Association / Tai Chi lesson: Discover the calming principles of Tai Chi with guided beginner-friendly movements
1.30-2.30pm: Byline Network / The Citizens Agenda: Dive into local news, unpack the stories, and explore what matters most in your community
2.30-4.30pm: OMiDaze Productions / Why our democracy is broken and how we can fix it: How can we do democracy differently and create the change we want to see? A mini open space where participants set the agenda
All day: The Good Neighbours Directory: Help build a directory celebrating community connections and local support networks

The School Room:

10.15-11.45: Climate Cymru / Imagine Action Training: The Imagine Action workshop helps individuals, communities and organisations across Wales communicate in ways that reflect what truly matters; craft compelling stories that unite us and reimagine a future we can create together.
12-1pm: Chinese in Wales Association / Tea Ceremony: Experience a traditional tea ceremony celebrating culture, connection, and mindfulness
1-3pm: Environment Centre Swansea / Information stall on Climate Leader Training Programme & “Climate Pie”
2.30-4pm: Rufus Mufasa / Poet-in-Residence: Create, collaborate, and contribute to a live poetic artwork throughout the day
2.30-4pm: Women4Resources / Climate Conversations with Mums and Girls: Open discussions on climate change and its impact on women and girls globally

Meeting Room:

1.30-4.30: Pathways to Peace / Explore what peace in Wales means to you: Share reflections and hopes for peace through creative dialogue

Outside:

12-2 / 2.30-4.30pm: No Fit State Circus / Circus Skills Workshops: Hands-on circus fun for kids and teens — learn tricks and get moving!

All Day / All Over!:

Where We Grow – Dream of Swansea display + Zine Workshop: Explore a creative installation and make your own zine or collage inspired by Swansea
Good Neighbours Directory: A participatory arts installation dressing the space inviting attendees to fill out flyers for who their good neighbours are, visualized through the day
The Camerados – Public Living Room: A welcoming space to relax, connect, and have meaningful conversations with others

Closing Ceremony:

5-7pm: Future Design Lab / Calan Mai closing ritual: As the event comes to a close, join Future Design Land head to the coast for a playful futures workshop where we will learn about different future methods and play a specific futures game: the ‘Three Horizons’ model. Just as the tide is getting in, we will have a bonfire soirée, where we will set intentions for the coming months.

Volcano Theatre Programme (1-5pm)

The Bar:

1-2pm: Mari Ellis Dunning / Writing as Resistance: a writing workshop that fights back | What does resistance look like when we transfer it to the page, and how can that impact the world around us? Join this workshop with poet Mari Ellis Dunning to engage with poetry and other texts that challenge the status quo, speak back to repression and disrupt narratives.
2-4pm: Humanity Project / Recipes of Love: Gather, share food, and explore meaningful community dialogue together.

The Studio:

1-3pm: The CAE – Explore your climate story: Explore the intersection of creativity and climate action in this 2-hour interactive workshop, which invites participants to explore climate justice through creativity and personal storytelling.
1-4pm: Swansea Creatives for Palestine / Banner and poster making: Join this banner making workshop bringing people together to design, paint and express collective voices through art. Perfect for activists, creatives and anyone ready to make an impact. Come create, connect and inspire change in our local community or the wider world.
3-5pm: Ronny Oner – Graffiti workshop: Learn graffiti techniques and create vibrant street art in a guided session

The Cinema:

Come and see 4 hours of films exploring stories from across Wales! Films include The Detectorists, Restore the Thaw and The Coal Beneath Our Feet, The Wind Above Our Heads!

Performances

Expect live music, spoken word, comedy, and powerful conversations throughout the day — including performances from Rufus Mufasa, Jamie Woods, Mari Ellis Dunning, Snail and more.

Across Wales, there is a long tradition of caring for one another and shaping the future collectively. From workers organising medical care in Tredegar, to quarrymen standing together in Penrhyn, to farmers building co-operatives in Aberystwyth, Welsh communities have always known the power of solidarity.

Ffair Cymru is more than an event — it’s a celebration of community, creativity, and collective power.
